Sweet Memories Stables Annual Sale:
“The Dutch Are Coming”   2010

WELCOME & THANK YOU for your interest in our open house and private/bid production sale. 2009 was our second annual sale and we want to thank each and every bidder and the successful buyers from our first two sales!

We are extremely excited to see that nearly all the horses have been in a show ring after leaving Sweet Memories. Our goal remains to raise champion POAs that are consistent and competitive in the show ring as well as being excellent breeding stock. In review of the lots sold:

  • 2008 -- Jamaican Dawn was named 2009 Midwest Grand Champion mare!

  • 2009 -- A Perfect Impulse was Champion at the Leonard Lewis Futurity as well as 8 & under walk-trot!

  • 2010 --

    • Dutch Picasso was leading the nation in hand trail in July;

    • Dutch Dancer was Reserve Grand International Champion lungeline;

    • Dutch Daytona was International Grand Champion 2 year old lungeline;

    • Dutch Colored Impulse was International Grand Champion Most Colorful Stallion;

    • Dutch Perfection N Steel was International Grand Champion 2 year old JPFC Western Pleasure and Champion at the Reichert Celebration.

    • Dutch Caramel was just named Grand Champion Mare at the South Dakota State fair as a 2 year old!

Our breeding program is achieving the goals we set!

This year’s foals are more consistent in quality than last year….so just close your eyes and choose a lot! You cannot go wrong.

We encourage you to look at the brood mares in the catalog as well as on the farm. We have spot-lighted just a few, but would consider selling additional mares. You could own the next champion from these mares bred to Major!

LOCATION: Ponies are located at our home address: 2820 Locust Road, Decorah IA.

WHEN: This type of sale has buyers researching and viewing/visiting ponies any time from now until sale day. The Open House will be Sept. 18th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come, share snacks, visit friends, bid on ponies in person and take your pony home immediately. But do not be surprised if many buyers are not actually there.

BIDDING: There is “NO” auctioneer at this type of sale. The bidding is like “Silent Auction” or EBAY bidding. All bids will be posted ongoing at the farm and as quickly as possible on our Web site. We will start tracking bids on the Web site on Sept. 1st. BID CUTOFF is 3:00 P.M. CDT on Sept 18th. At that time if a pony has a bid on it, it will be sold. This is absolute auction whereas all ponies that are “claimed” (minimum price bid) will have a new owner.

HOW TO BID: Every pony or lot has a “claim” price or minimum bid. If a buyer “claims” a pony he/she is bidding the minimum or higher. Bid raises must be made in a minimum amount of $25. Kevin and Anne Dykstra (or designees at sale) will take all bids in person, by phone or e-mail your bid. You must provide buyers name, address and way to contact them at 3:00 pm on Sept 18th.

WHEN TO BID: Please bid as early as possible. Bids will be taken and posted after Sept 1 and be taken up to the ending cutoff of 3:00 p.m. CDT. on Sept 18th. BID EARLY AND OFTEN!!!

WILL YOU SELL BEFORE BID CUTOFF: After much thought and feedback from many people we have decided that we “will” sell by private treaty prior to the sale. Therefore all ponies are subject to sale prior to the sale date.

IS THE HIGH BIDDER THE NEW BUYER: Not in every case. If a pony has had bidding activity in the last 15 minutes we will contact the bidders immediately after the 3:00 cutoff (or ASAP) and inform them where the bidding is and allow one last opportunity to raise their bid. We believe this is fairest way to be sure we have 100% accuracy and honest communications until the final bid is made.

WHAT ARE GUARANTEES: We guarantee that every pony is exactly as we represent it. As for color and POA characteristics you will need to research, view and get opinions necessary to make your own decisions as to verifying color and POA characteristics. If you have an interest in a particular pony and are planning to attend to take your purchase home on sale day, please let us know ahead of time so that we may draw blood for Coggins papers. Coggins will be provided but the pony can not be shipped until vet release. All announcements made day of sale will supersede prior statements.
